Our student P recently took the IELTS test in the UK. He was asked the following questions in the Speaking test:
Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– What is your name?
– Can you describe your home?
– Do you live in a house or an apartment?
– How long have you lived there?
– What do you like most about your home?
– Would you like to change anything about your home?
– What is your neighborhood like?
– Do you prefer living in a busy city or a quiet area? Why?
– What is your ideal type of accommodation?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a time when you were stuck in traffic. You should say:
– when and where it happened
– how long you were stuck
– what you did while waiting
and explain how you felt about being stuck in traffic.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Why do you think traffic congestion is a problem in many cities?
– What can governments do to reduce traffic congestion?
– How does heavy traffic affect people’s daily lives?
– Do you think public transportation is a good solution to traffic problems? Why or why not?
– What are the advantages of carpooling?
– How might technology help in reducing traffic congestion in the future?
