Our student took IELTS in Nigeria quite recently and remembered the following Speaking questions:

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– What is your name?
– Where are you from?
– Do you live in a city or a small town?
– What do you do, work or study?
– Are you living alone or with some family?
– Do you have younger brothers or sisters?
– Do you like being around kids?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Talk about a child you have met. You should say

– when you met the child
– describe the child’s personality
– what you did together

and explain how you felt about that child.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– Do many people live with their extended family in your country?
– Why do some people prefer living with a small family over extended family?
– What are some reasons people choose to live with extended family?
– What is the importance of grandparents in raising children?
– Do children these days prefer to play indoors or outdoors?
– Do the type of toys children have affect the way they play?
– What should we encourage in children?

Getting ready for IELTS can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re not using English daily. Let’s look at Rim’s journey, a determined student from an Arabic-speaking country, where French is more commonly used than English.
