IELTS Speaking test in Algeria, with answers (Part 1)

Here are some high-scoring Part 1 model answers for the Speaking Test that was shared by a student from Algeria. The answers show a good way to respond to these questions.

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

1. Are there common names in your country?

I think my name is one of the most common names around. I remember in primary school we had at least three Melissa’s in one class.

2. Is there a name that you like, and why?

I have always liked the name, Michael. It’s because as a teenager I loved watching Formula 1 racing and at the time Michael Schumacher was my hero, because he won more world titles than any other driver in the history of the sport.

3. Does this name have a meaning and what is it?

I am not sure about the origins of this name. As far as I can remember, I think it’s the name of one of the archangels. But personally, I equate this name to excellence because of the sportsperson it reminds me of.

4. What weather do you prefer, and why?

I enjoy sunny summer weather. This is the best weather for travelling and spending time outdoors. I love spending my summer vacation days out and about at the beach.

5. Is there a place that you would want to move to, because it has the type of weather that you like?

I have always wanted to visit the Maldives. I’ve heard that it has some of the world’s most pristine beaches. Living there would be like a permanent vacation with crystal clear water and sandy white beaches every day. 25 degrees Celsius is the coldest it ever gets there, and the idea of eternal summer seems really appealing to me.

6. How has the weather in your country changed in the past few years?

Without a doubt, the weather patterns have become much more extreme. Summers are hotter and the winters are much colder than ever before. It’s obviously one of the effects of global warming, but the rate at which these changes are occurring is alarming.
