IELTS in Brussels, Belgium – just a short update

Today instead of a full size update I have only a short one. An email arrived from a Belgian student and it said that their IELTS exam was a lot like the one I’ve posted about in India, New Delhi (click here to read it). The only difference was in the Speaking test:

Speaking test

Interview
– What is your name?
– What do you do? Do you study or work?
– Do you have visitors sometimes?
– What preparation do you make for visitors?
– Do you think it’s difficult to offer gifts? Why?
– Is that different for men and women? Why?

Cue card
Tell me about a sculpture (or a painting) that you like. Describe what it is and what does it represent. Why do you like it ? When and where did you see it for the first time?

Discussion
– What kind of art is popular in your country? Why ?
– Why do you think it is popular ?
– Why do you think cartoons are not always considered art? Do you think it’s related to the age of the audience?

IELTS exam in New Delhi, India – April 2009 (Academic Module)

One of our Indian friends reports about his recent IELTS exam, here’s what they had:

Listening test

I found the listening test to be simple and the questions were pretty straight forward.

Reading test

Passage 1 was about co-education vs single sex education. It was pretty simple, 4 paragraphs, Trye/False/Not given questions.
Passage 2 was about Charles Babbage and his invention.
Passage 3 was about taste and flavors. A little bit difficult, tricky.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (report)
We had a line graph showing number of people from different countries given UK citizenship. 2 more charts were comparing the origin of new citizens in 4 different countries.

Writing task 2 (essay)
In most of the societies the role played by a mother and a father is different. What is the reason and how it will change in the future.

Speaking test

Cue card

– How you met,
– What you liked about him/her
– Why is he/she your best friend.

– How can their relationship be improved?
