IELTS exam in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia – April 2009 (Academic Module)

A student from Mongolia updates us regarding his Academic IELTS exam (thanks, D!). He says that all the topics were EXACTLY as in IELTS exam in Taiwan, except for the questions in the Speaking test. Here is what the examiner asked D:

Speaking test

Introduction
– Please tell your full name.
– Tell me about your job.
– What do you like to do during your holiday?
– Do you like to go to parties?
– Whom you prefer to go to party with, your friends or parents? Why?
– Do you think that you need more holidays?

Cue card
– Who did give the most important advice to you in your life?
– Who was he/she?
– What was the result of that advice?

Discussion
– Tell about an advice that you gave someone.
– What kind of characters should be required for a good adviser?

IELTS exam in Jalandhar, India – April 2009 (General Training)

One of our Indian friends (excellent memory, S!) reports about his General Training IELTS exam:

Listening test

Section 1: A woman describing her lost bag to a railways official; the questions were on filling in the form of personal details.

Section 2: Art gallery students being introduced to the course & campus; the questions were on completing the course information & a map of campus.

Section 3: Talk by a university lecturer on an expedition to sea & a natural museum for students; the questions were multiple choice.

Section 4: A university professor giving information on research schedule; the questions were on completing the information.

Reading test

Passage 1 – a paragraph on bicycle expedition; the questions were “short answer questions” (three words).

Passage 2 – a paragraph on use of library; the questions were True/False/Not Given.

Passage 3 – a paragraph on getting a motorcycle license made; the questions were True/False/Not Given.

Passage 4 – can’t remember exactly but the questions were of matching information type.

Passage 5 – a paragraph on different types of calculators, very difficult reading. The questions were on matching the types of calculators with characteristics given and also matching given themes with paragraphs.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (letter)
You have moved to a new place. Write a letter to a friend giving reasons why you moved to that place. Describe that place. Invite your friend to visit you.

Writing task 2 (essay)
People find it very difficult to speak in public or to give a presentation before an audience. Do you think public speaking skill is really important? Give reasons. Some people say public speaking should be taught at school. Do you agree or disagree?
