IELTS test in the UK – September 2010 (Academic Module)

IELTS exam in the UK was shared by H (thank you!), who sent us the following topics and questions. Here is what H remembered:

Listening test

Section 1. A person was calling a travel agent to rent a flat for a holiday.
Section 2. Two researchers were talking about their findings.
Sections 3, 4. Cant remember.

Reading test

Passage 1. Regulations regarding drivers’ licenses of foreign drivers.
Passage 2. The importance of contents of a job application.
Passage 3. The importance of flax (native plants) in New Zealand’s old habitat.

Writing test

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your name?
– Where do you work?
– What kind of job is it?
– Do you have friends?
– Do you think having friends is important? Why?

Cue Card

Describe a good friend of yours, please say:
– who he/she is,
– what he/she is like,
– how you met him / her and
– explain why you are still friends

Discussion

– How do people make friends now?
– Do you think we meet new people differently now than in the past?

IELTS test in the Philippines – September 2010 (General Training)

IELTS General Training exam in the Philippines had the same listening section as the Academic exam , so our friend M says. Here are the other parts he remembered:

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a letter)

You are leaving your flat and going away for a period of time. Write a letter to your flat-mate about your keys that you left somewhere inside your flat. In your letter say

– why you had to leave and describe the location of your keys,
– how long you will be away,
– what you want him to do when you come back.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people say that schools should teach discipline and the difference between the right and wrong ideas; while others believe it should be the parents’ responsibility. Do you agree or disagree?

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your name?
– Where are you from?
– More general questions.

Cue Card

Describe a journey to a place that you would like to take, please say:
– where the place is,
– what type of transport you would choose,
– what the purpose of your journey is.

Discussion

Why do you prefer to travel in an airplane?
In your country, what type of transport do you use the most?
If you had money, would you like to buy a car and use it to travel?
What should you learn from your journey?
