IELTS Speaking test in Dubai, UAE – April 2011

The speaking questions below were shared by our kind friend I after his IELTS exam in Dubai, UAE.

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your name?
– Where are you from?
– Do you work or study?
– What is your job?
– What is important to you, the people you work with or the work that you do?
– Do you like animals?
– Which are the common animals that are made pets in your home country?
– Which wild animal in your country are you afraid of?
– Which animals do you think are a help?
– Do you think people spend more time inside or outside their houses?

Cue Card

Talk about a child that you know. Please include the following points in your speech:

– Describe your relationship with that child.
– Explain what he/she looks like.
– How do you feel about that child?
– Discuss why you choose to talk about this child.

Discussion

– Are grandparents important these days?
– Is there any difference between being a parent in the old times and today?
– How are the expectations different?
– Do you think children at school learn more than at home?
– What can schools / universities do to better prepare children for the real life?

IELTS test in Saudi Arabia – April 2011 (Academic Module)

The IELTS exam below was shared by R, who took his test in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Listening test

Section 1. A new patient was making an appointment at a dental clinic.

Section 2. Don’t remember.

Section 3. A conversation between two students about writing an article on history/museums.

Section 4. On how the English Channel was constructed. The idea, funds, etc.

Reading test

Passage 1. ‘The last man who knew everything’ – a biographic review of Thomas Young. How his articles were contributed to Encyclopedia Britannica and other achievements.

Passage 2. Philosophy behind the failure of new inventions (marketing).

Passage 3. An article on communication and learning behavior of growing children, including different social experiments.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We had to write a report on a bar chart showing a gender-wise comparison of subjects taken by the students in different years.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people say that new advancements in factory farming and the creation of new combinations of fruits and vegetables are not beneficial, while others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
