IELTS test in Sudan and Zimbabwe – June 2011 (Academic Module)

IELTS exams in Sudan and Zimbabwe were identical (with the exception of Speaking), so we are told by S and J, who remembered this much about the topics and questions:

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given 2 graphs. Graph (1) showed a number of police officers in two cities in 2000 and a prediction for 2012. And graph (2) showed a number of committed crimes in two cities in 2000 and a prediction for 2012.

Writing task 2 (an assay)

Early technological developments brought more benefits and changes to people’s life than the recent technological developments. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Speaking test 1

Interview

– What is your name?
– May I see your ID?
– Do you work or study?
– Do you like your job?
– What is happiness according to your understanding?
– What do you do to remain happy?
– What do you think makes people happy?
– Do you think money is important for achieving happiness in life?

Cue Card

Talk about fashion in clothes, please say:

– What type of clothes do you like?
– Why do you wear this type of clothes?
– How often do you go to markets to buy new clothes?
– Do you spend much money on new clothes? Why?
– Explain the importance of clothes to you.

Discussion

– Why do people dislike going to markets to buy new clothes?
– Why do people spend more time choosing new clothes?
– What is the importance of clothes / fashion in your country?
– What is the negative impact of fashion on young people in your country?
– Do clothes reflect people’s personalities? Why?
– Describe a fashion show that you attended.

Speaking test 2

Talk about a family member you often want to spend time with. Please say

– Who is he/she?

– Why do you want to spend most of your time with him/her?

Discussion

IELTS test in the Cayman Islands – June 2011 (Academic Module)

The IELTS exam below was shared by J from the Cayman Islands. Here are the sections she remembered:

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were asked to write a report about 4 bar graphs showing the number of overseas students (from China, Japan, USA and Russia) in universities of UK from 2004 to 2008.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Cultural traditions are being used for money making purposes, especially for tourists. Is this destroying the traditions or is it the only way to keep them alive?

Speaking test

Interview

– What is your name?
– Do you work or study?
– What part of your job is exciting?
– Which is more important – your job or the people you work with?
– Do you manage your time well?
– How do you do it?
– Do you like flowers?
– Are flowers important in your country?
– How are they important?

Cue Card

Talk about an interesting topic. Please say

– What topic is it?
– Why do you find it interesting?
– What can you learn from it?

Discussion

– What is more important: general or specific knowledge, in your opinion?
– How is general knowledge important to a country?
– Which person is more interesting to you: somebody has knowledge on many different subjects, or somebody who knows almost everything about certain topics?
