Our student PS recently took the IELTS test in India. He was asked the following questions in his Speaking test:

Speaking test

Part 1 (Interview)

– What is your name?
– Where are you from?
– Do you like watching movies?
– When was the last time you watched a funny video or movie?
– What kind of funny videos or movies do you enjoy?
– How do you feel after watching something funny?
– Do you prefer watching funny videos alone or with others? Why?
– Do you think humor is important in daily life? Why or why not?

Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe your favorite food that is usually present at a special event or party.

You should say:

– what the food is
– what makes it special
– how it is prepared

and explain why this food is important at special events or parties.

Part 3 (Discussion)

– How is food usually produced in your country?
– What challenges do people face when growing food in cities?
– Why do you think people prefer junk food over healthier options?
– How does the import of food affect the economy of your country?
– Do you think people should rely more on locally grown food? Why or why not?
– How can governments encourage people to eat healthier foods?
– What is the role of the law of demand and supply in food production?
– How do food prices affect people’s dietary choices?
– Do you think technology has improved food production? How?
– What impact does food waste have on the economy and environment?
